OPT7 Dual Beam Hi-Lo HID Conversion Kit Only Halogen High Beam Works & Low Beam HID Does Not

Hello Fellow OPT7-ites,

This article pertains to Hi-Lo dual beam bulb types only; not to be confused with Bi-xenon dual beam bulb types.

Hi-Lo dual beam bulbs offer low beam Xenon HID lighting and high beam halogen lighting

Bi-xenon dual beam bulb types offer low and high beam Xenon HID lighting

ISSUE

Low beam Xenon HID does not light up but the high beam halogen does

EXPLANATION

It is important to note that the low beam xenon HID bulb draws power from the ballast; however, the halogen high beam draws power directly from the vehicle through the HID Kit ballast to vehicle connection/power harness. So the high beam halogen lighting up does not indicate the ballast nor HID bulb are defective. Rather it indicates the Xenon HID low beam bulb is not able to draw power from the ballast. This generally is caused by a polarity miss match at the ballast to vehicle connection.

SOLUTION

Reversing the polarity will generally resolve the aforementioned issue.

How to Reverse Polarity:

  1. Reverse the polarity by disconnecting the ballast to vehicle (ballast to relay connection; if applicable)
  2. Flip the power harness 180 degrees
  3. Connect; clip side down
  4. Re-test Low beam Xenon HID
